Littering annual balance of the IGSU gives hope

The results of the latest IG saubere Umwelt (IGSU) survey show that awareness raising and a dense collection infrastructure are effective against litter. For the fourth year in a row, the Swiss population says that littering is decreasing.

Despite population growth, increasing consumption on the move and increased use of public space, the littering situation has improved slightly since the first survey in 2015. While 25 percent of respondents in 2015 were still of the opinion that "rather a lot" or "a lot" of litter was being littered, by 2019 it was only 20 percent. The improvements are also noticeable in many cities and communities. This positive development is the result of continuous awareness raising and a dense collection infrastructure.
