René Maier, our esteemed colleague and editor-in-chief of investrends.ch, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 57. During his vacations in Ivory Coast, his wife's country of origin and his second home, he contracted food poisoning, which led to severe complications in the further course. Despite returning home and being hospitalized, he passed away earlier this week. We are shocked by his sudden and early passing and offer our deepest condolences to his wife, his son and the entire bereaved family.

René leaves a big gap not only in his family and circle of friends, but also with us. After studying at the University of Zurich, he began his journalistic career at the "Limmattaler Tagblatt". After a few years as a commercial teacher, he joined the publishing house Ringier Axel Springer Schweiz in 2007. There he was responsible for the magazine "Schweizer Bank" as editor and later as editor-in-chief for over ten years.

When the publication was discontinued by the publishing house in the wake of the print crisis, René became editor-in-chief of investrends.ch in October 2018. In the years that followed, he contributed a great deal to the success as well as the content and editorial quality of the news platform. Under his leadership, it was renamed from Fondstrends to investrends.ch in 2019 and raised to a new level in terms of design and technology.

René wanted to realize further projects with fresh momentum after returning from vacation. Instead, we have to overcome the shock of his sudden death. This saddens us all deeply.
